Raier trade consisted in the construction of rafts made of logs which were called rais and their conduction downstream.
In Catalonia, raier’s most relevant activity was developed in Coll de Nargó, in the River Segre Basin, and in Claverol Bridge, Noguera Pallaresa River Basin.
The word rai comes from “lightning” as the wood structure floated downstream like a bolt of lightning in Catalonian Rivers.
Raier trade started in winter, in the black pine tree forests and fir tree from the Pyrenees forests so as to go down the ravine until they reached the workplace. In summer, logs were conducted to the wood distribution zone.
The journey, the contact with nature and the flow of water are the point of departure, which lead the inspiration of this collection.
The handcrafted technique of macramé and the use of cords represent the knots that tied and fixed the logs.
The combination of different materials and textures creates movement and recalls water. Latex is the key element to design this movement which is mixed with silk so as to create a superficial layer and a wet-end effect.
Silkscreen technique is applied on printings handcrafted. Texture designs and partially printed fabrics become blurred and remind us of water and its ephemeral condition.
Organic and oversize patterns lead to silk, linen and wood fabrics. Exaggerated exterior seams symbolize wood wounds. Those exterior seams are also used with double cloth.
Blue, green, grey, black and white colours contribute to the recreation of the perfect environment for this collection and remind us of rivers and nature.
Fight between man and nature is the driving force of the staging.
