STATEMENT OF INTENT

We want to be part of the change that the fashion world needs. This collection is a statement of intent, it is the answer to the future that we have decided to undertake to MIRIAM PONSA.

Climate urgency is already a reality from which we cannot escape, in which the world of fashion plays a very important role. The fashion sector is the second most polluting on the planet and our responsibility is to do something to change it. We decided to help build a better world and we want to do it through textile recycling. We are training and learning to be able to create recycled fabrics and offer them in the next collections. It is a path that is just beginning but we already have its seeds planted and are beginning to grow towards building solutions that turn waste into values.

We want to thank you for the support received in the latest collections, the good reception of the pre-order model allows us to start new challenges based on collective awareness and the desire to try to do better. It is our duty to offer more environmentally friendly collections and a great responsibility that we decided to take on. We will make this revolution together by making us co-responsible for the decisions we make. The predatory model of the fast-fashion industry is based on overproduction and compulsive buying causing a number of unsustainable stocks, which become unsustainable waste at all levels. Continuing with this economic system puts the health of the planet and ours at risk. Our answer to this model is to stop producing stocks. We bet on the online sale through the pre-order model, we only produce on request following the rhythm of nature and delivering the pieces at the beginning of the season of the year (autumn, winter, spring and summer). For this reason, we currently only have the physical store in Manresa that allows us personalized advice and the sale of exclusive parts. To continue this project for the future we can only do it together. For our part, we offer tighter prices during the sale of pre-orders to collaborate in mutual aid. In this way, we stop making unnecessary sales and discounts that encourage compulsive consumption.

Open your closet, react, think you need to, and shop consciously. In the new textile recycling process that we are starting, although we are working with the new fabrics recycled and produced in Catalonia that we wish to be able to offer as soon as possible. It is a long road in which learning and patience play a major role. In this new project, we are happy to inform you that in this collection we have
started working with the Catalan company Innit Denim, which works entirely with fabrics produced from the recycling of denim. The raw material for post-consumer denim comes from donations made by Solidança S.L. (Friendly Clothes) by means of textile collection containers distributed in our territory. It is a pride to be able to use the fabrics of this company that was created 8 years ago with the shared objectives of environmental respect and social responsibility.

We produce on demand

We bet on a 100% pre-order production model. This implies that we plan production over actual consumption and do so with the assurance that each of the pieces we are going to produce is desired and expected by someone. Only in this way can we break the circle of overproduction, one of the main problems of the fashion industry.

This system favors a more reflective and leisurely consumption, as the purchase is made with foresight and also makes it possible for us to make more efficient use of the necessary resources and therefore allows us to adjust prices and make our sustainable fashion proposal more affordable. .

Every year, more than 92,000 tons of clothes are thrown away, including the one that is no longer sold. The vast majority of these parts end up in landfills or are incinerated.

We produce in Catalonia

All our pieces are entirely designed and produced in workshops in Catalonia. The pieces we offer are designed in our workshop in Manresa, cut in Sant Martí de Tous, made in Guissona and Sabadell, dyed in Castellar del Vallès and ironed in Sabadell.

This proximity circuit strengthens the local business fabric and guarantees that all the people involved in the production process of our pieces receive a decent salary for their work.

As consumers we have the power to change the world just by making sure that every purchase we make is respectful of the environment and people.

We are moving towards the circular economy

We are taking firm steps to move towards a circular economy model, working on fabric recycling so as not to have to generate new ones to create new collections. Getting to close the clothing cycle and recover all the fabrics is our utopia, our horizon and the path that serves us to walk.

In current productions, we investigate the origin of the fabrics we use, always prioritizing the use of fabrics in stock and which are produced in the European Union.

We also prioritize the use of sustainable fabrics such as tencel or linen, fabrics that require less water and pesticides and therefore have a lower environmental impact.

10% of global CO2 emissions come from the textile industry.

We make quality fashion

Fast fashion has led to totally unsustainable consumption habits. The perception has been normalized that there are parts that can be disposable and that it is not worth repairing them.

We are committed to pedagogy of sustainable fashion, to produce high quality pieces that should not be changed every season. We also promote the culture of repairing before replacing with campaigns to fix our parts for free.

Between 2000 and 2014, garment production doubled. 60% more clothes are currently being bought than a decade ago, but spending has stagnated. You buy more but less quality.

We are environmental activists

Giving new life to spaces, furniture and clothing that have been given up for dead is part of our essence. MIRIAM PONSA was born with the recovery of the old family factory and the reuse of available resources has always been part of our path.

Environmental activism is also decisive in the day-to-day life of MIRIAM PONSA. This concern has led us to make our workshop virtually self-sufficient. We produce 90% of the energy we consume with our own photovoltaic panels and the remaining 10% we supply through Som Energia, a cooperative for the consumption of energy from renewable sources.

We travel internally with a 100% electric van or by bicycle whenever possible. We also avoid the use of plastic in the packaging of our parts.

The whole team is committed to the minimum generation of waste and the constant search for sustainable alternatives in each of our actions.
